High Deserts, Low Times
Hey y'all, I'm breaking my hiatus because the world is a lot and if you need some cathartic music to help you move through the atrocities we are witnessing on a daily basis I might be able to help.
This past spring my partner and I wrote, produced and performed our first album 'Money, Lies and the American Dream' which is about, well, what the title says. Over the last five years I have helped unionize two separate workplaces, worked on staff for a union, been a part of the agriculture industry/community, worked retail, worked in the service industry, truly been a laborer through and through (to be fair, being an actor/live performer in any form is also hard labor) and I have also seen the underbelly of many beasts and some of them have damn near killed me (ADHD/Depression will do that to ya). And I can safely say, based on my own personal experiences, we are living through a class war daily that the current administration is waging.
We are living through a time where people would rather not believe the lived experiences of certain groups of people because someone somewhere convinced them it was better to live in fear/hate than try and step into progression. And right now we are staring straight into the barrel of the fascist agenda and it's time to decide what side of history we want to be on. And that radical acceptance is fucking hard to move through, I get it, I really fucking do, but we have to make peace with the fact that no one is coming to save us--we have to do it ourselves. And the first step is accepting shit is bad and ya know, it's really really bad right now. But we can figure this shit out--and if you don't have the capacity to right now that is ok because someday you might. But someday will have to come. And until then, I won't stop fighting for what I know is right.
And that brings me back to 'Money, Lies and the American Dream'. If you have known me as a performer (and almost everyone reading this probably has), this album is a step away from the creative endeavors of my past. The sacred rage that has awoken in me fueled the fire I needed to step into something incredibly new and uncomfortable and I can say without a shadow of a doubt this is the personal piece I am the proudest of. It is loud, upfront and comes from a place of deep, deep authenticity. If it isn't your cup of tea I understand, but if you need something to help during this fucking unprecedented time it might help.
Alright, I'll leave it here. If you've read this far, thank you, I hope you are well and know I love ya. If you are interested in listening I would recommend doing so on Bandcamp--it's the best way.
